Cyclades Islands - Syros
With the many different island
clusters that surround Greece, it is hard to pick
one location and one place that stands out from all the
rest. With beauty, history, and simplicity, Syros Cyclades
Islands is by far one of the most amazing destinations
for a person looking to explore everything that makes
the Cyclades Islands so amazing.
Stepping off the ferry and onto the sands of Syros is
like stepping into the middle of a neoclassical painting.
With rich heritage and sparkling ancestry, Syros, Cyclades
Islands is seemingly a place from another time. Syros
Cyclades Islands is an island of rich natural beauty and
rich cultural history. At every turn, you will find something
that will remind you that you are in paradise; and the
name of that paradise is Syros.
The capital of Syros, Cyclades Islands is Ermoupolis.
Many tourists and native Grecians
consider Ermoupolis to be one of, if not the, most beautiful
towns in all of Greece. More than just the capital of
Syros, Ermoupolis is also the capital of the Cyclades
Island cluster, making it a location that should be on
any tourist map and pulsing with life and energy. Syros
Cyclades Islands and Ermoupolis will appeal to the architect
buff, the historian, and the curious child in different
yet complimentary ways.
Two other Syros Cyclades Islands locations deserve to
be mentioned in any discussion of Syros. The first is
Ancient Possidonia. Ancient Possidonia, Syros, is a place
where the God of the sea, Poseidon was worshiped. The
location of the town is somewhat unknown today and marked
only by partial buildings and structures that have survived
throughout the years and decades. A literature student
may also remember that Possidonia was mentioned by the
great author, Homer. Possidonia, Syros Cyclades Island
is a place of mystery and a place where you can walk where
many believe the ancient
gods once appeared.
Another location in Syros Cyclades Islands that should
be mentioned is Ano Syros, which is called Ano Sira by
the people who live there. This one of a kind village
contains a little bit of everything while maintaining
the medieval influence through which it was created. Ano
Sira is a place where folklore comes to life and the oral
history of this magical place is preserved for generations
to come. Ano Sira is a place where even an outsider soon
feels at home and where the true beauty of Syros Cyclades
Islands is revealed through her people.
