Greek tourism is a large part of the Greek economy. There
are licensed tours that you can join a group and be given
a tour of specific areas, or you can create your own itinerary-
find your own accomodations in Greece, decide what attractions
to visit, where to sight see, eat, etc!
Much of Greece tourism is centered around religious culture.
The monuments of the Greek Orthodox Church attract a large
number of tourists to Greece. Some Greek tourism is centered
around the countries eco-systems. The variety and richness
of Greek eco-systems provide a wide range of opportunities
for alternative holiday experiences. You can explore woodlands
and forests, located not only in the mountainous hinterland
but also in some islands or near lakes and rivers. There
are many rare birds throughout Greece's coastal eco-systems
and 360 wetlands. In Rhodes Island,
many tourists are excited to find the unique "Valley
of Butterflies".
Unless you are planning to backpack through Greece, and
sleep anywhere- you should consider using a travel agent
to assist you in planning your trip. Just about every
hotel in Greece has their own website now, but the quality
of their web design does not always reflect the quality
of the Greek hotel. A travel agent can organize ferries,
flights, transportation to and from airports and ports,
find the right Greek hotel for you, deal with any unforseen
circumstances, answer all your questions and in the end
save you time, money and your sanity. You can choose from
dozens of pre-made itineraries or you can create your
own.
