The Ionian Islands

The Ionian Islands is often called Heptanisos, which
means "Seven Islands" in Greek because the Ionian
islands consist of seven major islands. The islands are
named: Corfu, Paxi, Lefkada,
Ithaki, Cephalonia,
Zakynthos,and Kythira,
and are located along the western coast of Greece, near
the Epirus and Peloponnes.
The Ionian Islands receive the most rainfall of all
the Greek Islands, making these islands great for vegetation.
These islands are also known for winds conducive to
sailing. There are both very developed islands, with
all the facilities you'd expect from a tourist attraction,
and also more isolated islands among the Ionian Islands.
So no matter what your idea of the perfect holiday on
a greek island, you'll find the Ionian Islands to be
a perfect destination!
The Dodecanese Islands

The Dodecanese Islands consists of twelve major islands;
Rhodes, Kos,
Kalymnos, Karpathos,
Patmos, Tilos,
Symi, Leros,
Astypalea, Nisyros,
Kassos and Halki,
and many smaller islands, located along the coast of Turkey,
and furthest from the mainland. Their location has influenced
the islands architectural styles, with many of the islands
buildings influenced by the Eastern and Western cultures.
Holidays in the Dodecanese Islands provide a never to
be forgotten experience- the beautiful landscapes, more
of the endless sandy beaches that all of the Greek Islands
offer, and breathtaking castles.
The Island of Crete

Crete is independent of the mainland of Greece, due to
it's distance from the mainland, and the fertility of
the land. Crete Island has a culture seperate from the
rest of the Greek Islands because of it's isolation, and
the people of Crete speak their own language and have
their own traditions. Crete is the largest and most southernly
located island of all the Greek Islands.
Spending your Greek holiday on the islands of Crete will
offer travelers more beaches,
breathtaking mountains, the only palm tree forest in all
of Europe, and several castles.
The Minoan civilization, the oldest and largest civilization
in Europe, was originally established on the islands of
Crete. Culture and history
abound on this large island, and many ruins of the Minoan
cvilization remain.
The Saronic Islands
The Saronic islands consist of five islands: Salamina,
Egina, Poros, Hydra,
and Spetses. The Saronic islands
are located closest to Athens,
making it a popular weekend attraction for the people
of Athens.
A greek holiday among the Saronic islands has much to
offer, and each island has unique characteristics; although
all of the Saronic islands offer a natural beauty, clean
beaches, and quaint villages along the coastlines.
The waters around the Saronic islands are known for their
great sailing.
The Sporades Islands
The Sporades islands consist of four inhabited islands,
called Skiathos, Skopelos,
Alonissos and Skyros,
and seven uninhabited islands. The Sporades islands are
located east of the Pilion peninsula, with the four inhabited
islands in the northern Sporades, closest to the mainland.
Beaches of the Sporades
islands are known for their "turquoise"
colored waters. If you're looking for a well developed
tourist industry for your Greek holiday, the Skiathos
and Skopelos are the most popular. For a more isolated
island experience, Alonissos and Skyros can offer you
their impressive, natural island beauty, dense vegetation
and mountainous landscapes.
The Eastern Aegean Islands
The Eastern Aegean Islands consist of five major islands,
including Chios, Ikaria,
Lesvos, Limnos
and Samos. The Eastern Aegean
Islands also include many other small islands such as
Fourni , Psara and Inousses, and Eftratios. The Greek
island grouping is actually closer to Turkey than to the
mainland of Greece.
