Greek Beaches and Beach Island in Greece

Greece is made of some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. There are over one hundred beaches to suit every traveler, from crowded party-like beaches, to quiet and secluded beaches that will feel private and all yours! There are beaches that boast warm waters, and some that have cold water. You can choose between white sandy beaches, or black sand- or maybe no sand at all, as there are beaches whose coastlines consist of pebbles instead of sand. Whatever your desire for the perfect beach, you’ll find it on one of the islands in Greece. Below is a summary of some of the beaches you can visit when you are in Greece.

The beaches of Alonissos are quiet and natural, have crystal clear water, but only two of them have sandy beaches; Vvthisma and Vrysitsa. All of the other beaches of Alonissos have pebbles and rough terrain on the beaches.

The island of Ios caters to the younger crowd of tourists, with bars and night clubs around the most populated areas. There are three main villages of Ios, Yialos, Hora and Mylopotamos, with the most popular bus route stopping in Mylopotamos because of one of the most gorgeous beaches and mini resorts that are located there!

A relatively undeveloped island, Lefkadha, is connected to the mainland of Greece by a long causeway through lagoons. The eastern side of the island is developed with resorts, and is quite busy, but the majority of the island is picturesque.

Naxos, located within the Cyclades, is green and one of the most fertile of the islands. The island could support itself without the income from tourism, thanks to the production of potatoes, olives, lemons and grapes. The beaches of Naxos are known for their caves- where you can actually still see the remains of Cycladic buildings.

Crete has both a very developed coastline and also, in the mountains, a quiet and secluded coastline. The north coast is very developed, and the people are quite wealthy. There are great public beaches if you don’t mind crowds, and Crete is a great place to go if you’re looking for traditional hospitality and tourism..
